Thousands of people have signed up to a new tariff from energy supplier Scottish Power that sees the company donate money to a charity looking to fight cancer.
The Help Beat Cancer Discounted Energy January 2015 product provides users with a guaranteed discount of three per cent below the company's standard monthly direct debit prices until the end of 2014, while Scottish Power donates £15 to Cancer Research UK for every customer who signs up, with a further £10 for every year they remain on the deal.
So far, efforts by the energy provider have seen a quarter of a million pounds raised for the charity in just over two months.
Chief executive of energy retail and generation at Scottish Power Neil Clitheroe said: "We are proud to be supporting Cancer Research UK and we are delighted by the response of our customers and staff in helping to raise funds for this excellent cause."
Cancer Research UK notes one in three people will develop some form of cancer in their lifetime, with 156,090 individuals in the UK dying from the disease in 2009.
