Customers looking to compare energy deals could be interested to hear that British Gas is offering a text and online meter reading service on some of its tariffs.
The service will enable customers to submit precise meter readings by text message or on the internet, meaning they will no longer have to deal with the possibility of overcharging through estimated readings, reports Which?.
In addition the service, dubbed EnergySmart, will provide customers with the means to monitor their electricity usage, while tracking tools on the internet will provide reduction targets.
The government plans to instigate a nationwide roll-out of smart meters, which could enable homeowners to monitor their precise energy usage.
