Central eco body would help attract sustainable cheap energy investment - 05/07/2010

Industry experts believe that a central body tasked with taking charge of environmental business policy would help stimulate investment in sustainable cheap energy.

According to climate change analysts Climatico, a central point of contact for matters relating to the low carbon economy would be "highly desirable" in order to give a consistent and clear message to help businesses understand the impact of government policy and to attract green investment.

Paige Andrews, executive director of Climatico, explained that this central point of contact might best be provided through a partnership between public, private and non-governmental bodies or in conjunction with existing or planned low carbon initiatives such as the Climate Change Act.

She suggested that the government can also attract green investment though financial incentives, credits and increasing transparency.

Reducing spending in low carbon infrastructure and clarifying the long-term negative impact and costs associated with the continued expenditure in carbon-intensive sectors would also attract investment, Ms Andrew noted.
