Energy customers who want to switch gas could check how much they are paying compared to the average in their region.
Research from energy supplier British Gas reveals householders in Derby use the most power out of all its customers, with the average home there using more than 7,000 (7,610) kWh between December 2010 and February 2011.
On the other hand, customers in London were found to be very energy efficient as they used an average of 969 kWh in the same period.
The results could persuade more householders to switch energy deal and save money.
Indeed, research from energyhelpline.com revealed earlier this year that a north-south divide exists in the UK with regard to energy prices, as those living in the north pay around £60 a year more than their southern counterparts for a typical utility bill.
