Consumers who have concerns about their household finances should compare energy deals to see if they would be better off on a different tariff.
According to the Guardian, smaller energy suppliers including First Utility, Ovo and Green Energy have already announced price hikes for their standard tariffs in the last few weeks.
This could lay the groundwork for the Big Six suppliers to increase their gas and electricity costs before long.
Director of energyhelpline.com Mark Todd says, "The outlook is very bleak and consumers need to act quickly if they want to snap up the cheapest deals or opt for a fixed-rate tariff, which will protect them from further price rises. Times are hard generally and they are about to get harder as the cost of domestic power spirals relentlessly upwards."
