A group of domestic energy users in London have banded together to see how much energy they can save around the house, with a £250 prize for the person who saves the most.
Led by activist Jelena Kiselova, residents of Borough in south London have been making small changes to secure cheap energy bills.
These include turning off electrical appliances at the mains at night and switching off fans when they are not in use.
Ms Kiselova told the Telegraph: "We can't rely on the government to solve the problem of rising fuel costs, but we can help ourselves by taking small steps together."
She added that she thought it would be interesting to make the scheme into a competition so people try to out-do each other and save more energy.
