Renewables 'set to cut energy bills' in Scotland - 07/03/2012
Individuals in Scotland may be able to get cheap electricity in the coming years due to greater use of renewable energy sources in the country.
This is according to a new report from the nation's government that predicted low carbon policies could help cut the typical domestic energy bill by around £100 by 2020 compared with doing nothing.
It estimated Scotland is on target to achieve its goal of generating all of its electricity needs from green sources by then.
Energy minister Fergus Ewing said: "The prize at stake for the people of Scotland is huge, in terms of jobs, economic opportunities and lower electricity bills for all."
Chief executive of SSE Ian Marchant welcomed the report and added it is vital consistent policies are adopted at Scottish, UK and EU levels to deliver future green energy security.
Recently, Holyrood's Energy and Tourism Committee urged the Scottish government to put more pressure on energy suppliers in order to bring bills down.
