Business energy costs are proving to be a big concern across the UK, a new survey has revealed.
The Forum of Private Business (FPB) carried out a study to see what infrastructure issues are high up on the agenda among small companies in Britain.
Figures showed that the quality of transport links and telecommunications facilities are two major problems at the moment, along with skills training provision and local banking services.
However, the cost of business electricity and gas was named as one of the biggest issues overall, with eight in ten respondents flagging this up as a concern.
Jane Bennett, head of campaigns at the FPB, has urged the government to try to develop a "joined-up system where projects on transport and communication work in harmony with proactive policies on energy, tax and red tape".
She said this would help to stimulate economic growth and increase confidence among both consumers and businesses.
This comes after Greg Corbett of Avery, the founder of Green Office Week, said staff can play a key role in cutting a business's energy usage.
