Ovo Energy announces price cut - 06/01/2012

People looking to perform an energy comparison and switch gas and electricity provider may be interested to hear Ovo Energy has announced a cut in prices.

The company stated it will be reducing tariffs for its dual fuel users by five per cent for new customers and existing consumers who renew their deals, effective from today (January 6th).

It means the typical household that gets its gas and electricity from the provider will see its energy bills fall to £1060.77 a year, compared with an average of £1194 for comparable deals from the Big Six suppliers.

Managing director of Ovo Stephen Fitzpatrick said: "Due to a recent decrease in wholesale costs, we are able to respond and pass on these savings to consumers, thereby giving them a cheaper and simpler alternative to the Big Six".

He added he is "delighted" to be able to announce the move at this time, as January is a challenging month for many people's finances.

Ovo's move follows a decision last month by Co-operative Energy to cut its prices by three per cent from February 1st.
