Business energy customers are thinking carefully about the cost of sustainability in the current economic climate, the UK Green Building Council has said.
Paul King, chief executive of the organisation, said firms are looking at the longer-term expense of investing in a sustainable office building and pointed out that more businesses expect sustainability to be built in as part of the tenancy quality.
"People are thinking about how those assets are going to be performing in the next five or ten years' time. They can see the way government policy is heading with carbon taxes and other things, so people are thinking about future-proofing their business," he explained.
"We are seeing sustainability going up the agenda and being ever more firmly at the top of agendas."
Mr King's remarks come after GVA Grimley research found 89 per cent of private tenants are dissatisfied with their landlord's interaction with them on sustainability issues.
