Many firms may want to follow the example of one council and compare energy deals in order to switch gas and electricity supplier to a better deal.
The Malvern Gazette reports Kempsey Parish Council near Worcester was able to cut its bills in half by performing an energy comparison.
At present, the rolling deal it has with its current electricity supplier costs 17p per kWh, amounting to £2,800 a year.
However, chairman of the body councillor Bob Bowley was able to find a deal at 9p per kWh with no standing changes by looking closely at the available options.
At the same time, comparing prices allowed the council to reduce its gas bill by 30 per cent.
Businesses may want to keep a close eye on their energy contracts, as councillor Andrew Hay explained their original gas supplier has hiked its standing charge by 607 per cent when the deal was reviewed.
Elsewhere, Arun District Council has been able to save more than £700 on electricity bills due to recently-fitted solar panels at its Civic Centre, the Littlehamption Gazette reports.
