Wood-burning stoves could access cheap energy - 03/06/2009
People looking to switch gas and electricity companies could opt to buy a wood-burning stove to help both reduce their energy bills and their carbon emissions.
Demand for the stoves has increased as home owners prepare for this winter by cutting their reliance on traditional fossil fuels and seek to avoid getting caught out with high bills from energy companies, reports the Telegraph.
Installing a wood-burning stove can also increase the value of a property as they look stylish and they help make homes more energy-efficient, thereby producing a higher-level Energy Performance Certificate (EPC).
With reference to EPCs, Nick Sloane of Jotul, a Norwegian stove-maker, told the paper: "This is because they are considered to be such efficient sources of energy. They outperform both solar panels and ground source heat pumps - and they are beautiful to look at."
According to the Forestry Commission, more than ten million tonnes of wood could be produced each year for energy purposes if the UK's forests have better management.
