Expert body: Expand role of DEAs to improve cheap energy pursuit - 09/06/2009

An expert body has said prices from energy suppliers could be tackled more effectively if the role of Domestic Energy Assessors (DEAs) is expanded, reports 24dash.com.

Northgate Public Services has called for the change in order to help alleviate fuel poverty and to also step up awareness of climate change issues across the UK, as it says homeowners are more likely to address their energy usage if they receive a visit from a DEA.

The organisation has also called for DEAs to be given training in benefits information so that they can advise people on what they can claim to help pursue efficiency and tackle high prices.

Russell Osborne, managing director of Citizen Solutions at Northgate Public Services, told the website: "In all of our responses to the UK government and the devolved nations, we are saying to government that DEAs have a critical role in promoting environmental equity."

He added that online services have been improved in order to provide more effective support for DEAs in the field.

The government plans to retrofit every UK home in pursuit of energy efficiency.
