Govt unveils new-look energy advice service - 03/04/2012

People looking to move house may find it easier from this month to determine if they will be able to get cheap gas when they relocate to a new abode.

This is because the government has unveiled updates to the Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) that should make it simpler to understand and give buyers clearer information about the efficiency of homes.

Information to be included on the forms will highlight recommendations for further improvements and whether individuals will be able to apply for help through the Green Deal for such renovations.

Communities minister Andrew Stunell said homeowners often previously found it difficult to tell what they have to do to act on the advice given by EPCs.

The updated version should improve this by providing clear information about how homeowners can cut their gas and electricity bills.

It was welcomed by energy expert at Consumer Focus Liz Laine, who said: "As energy prices rise and the need to reduce our carbon emissions continues, it is hugely important that consumers are helped through every means possible to cut their energy use and slash their bills."
