Solar installations see sharp fall - 09/05/2012

People who are looking to get cheap electricity from solar installations have been advised to act quickly before further cuts in subsidies for the technology.

It was recently revealed by the Department of Energy and Climate Change that take-up levels have plummeted by almost 90 per cent since Feed-in Tariffs (FITs) were slashed in half in April.

Energy expert at Which? Sylvia Baron said this was not unexpected, as there had been a surge among consumers trying to get projects completed before the deadline passed.

However, she added: "The FIT rates are due to be cut further in July this year, so if you are interested in installing solar PV panels, now might be the time. "

Energy minister Greg Barker recently explained the cuts are designed to bring greater stability to the market and provide certainty to consumers.
