Energy supplier teams with Sainsbury's to sell energy-saving devices - 02/12/2009

A range of devices intended to help save energy in the home will be available in three Sainsbury's stores through a deal with EDF and could convince customers to compare energy practices.

The supplier will establish Home Energy Centres at the selected Sainsbury's supermarkets and customers will be able to apply for funding to help make their homes more energy-efficient, in addition to purchasing some of the relevant products.

EDF said the centres are intended as showrooms providing easily-accessible information for supermarket customers.

Adam Zeiderman, Sainsbury’s commercial manager, said: "By setting up our Home Energy Centres to complement the national order line, we believe we're bringing green technology a step closer to everyone."

The supermarket added energy-saving products of this nature have not been available in supermarkets before now.

EDF is leading nuclear redevelopment in the UK and is scheduled to have the first new nuclear reactor operational by 2017.

The government recently revealed details of ten sites it considers suitable for nuclear redevelopment.
