![]() | Gas and Electricity GuideDo you want to know more about MPRN (Meter Point Reference Numbers)? Fair enough. Energy is one of the biggest household expenses. You will have noticed energy prices rising rapidly over the past few years. Knowing more about gas and electricity will enable you to reduce your bill. |
Each house in the UK that is on the mains gas supply will have an MPRN. In fact, your home may have more than one MPRN. Your MPRN is unique to your home and doesn’t change if you switch suppliers, or even if you shift house.
Your MPRN will be a series of between 6 and 10 numerical digits. Sometimes, your MPRN may be referred to as an “M Number” or Meter Point Reference Number. Try not to confuse your MPRN with your gas supplier account number or the serial number which is printed on your gas meter.

Your MPRN should be printed on a gas bill that you’ve received from your supplier. Gas companies usually print the MPRN on either the first page of their gas bills, or the reverse-side of the front page.
Some new gas meters have the MPRN clearly visible on the meter itself.
If you cannot find your MPRN on a recent gas bill, you can find out your MPRN by calling Transco's MPRN helpline on 0870 608 1524.
