12 January 2012: British Gas, EDF & SSE all announce price cuts

Today British Gas and SSE have joined EDF and Ovo in announcing price cuts.

Ovo was the first to show its hand last week, cutting the price of its cheap fixed tariffs by an average of 5% for new and renewing customers.

Then yesterday EDF announced a 5% gas price cut on its standard prices from 7th Feb.

This morning, British Gas has responded by cutting 5% off its electricity prices with immediate effect for all customers except those on fixed tariffs and dual rate electricity (i.e. Economy 7).

And SSE has now announced that it is chopping 4.5% off its gas prices on 26th March.

Who's next?!

These price cuts are good news but, considering that prices rose by nearly 20% last year, still leave standard rates amongst the most expensive, with the cheapest online deals still £100-£200 a year cheaper.

New Ovo and British Gas rates are already live on our site for comparisons.
