Energy suppliers EDF hold national supply chain event - 16/09/2010

Energy suppliers EDF held their second national supply chain event this week, aimed at UK contractors bidding for work on the company's nuclear new build programme.

The New Nuclear Opportunities forum highlighted the role of British businesses in helping EDF invest in new nuclear power stations in the UK.

EDF announced plans to build four new EPR nuclear reactors in conjunction with Centrica, the parent company of energy suppliers British Gas.

The project is expected to lead to about 150 further contracts worth billions of pounds, with British businesses playing a significant role.

Minister of state for the department of energy and climate change Charles Hendry said the projects provide multi-billion pound opportunities for UK industry and jobs.

"These projects can help revitalise entire sectors of the British economy and create a UK industry with the skills to export and compete around the world," he said.

Mr Hendry added the drive of energy suppliers such as EDF and the enthusiasm of local and national companies to get involved is very encouraging.ADNFCR-659-ID-800067545-ADNFCR
