Business energy users could be hit with higher gas bills this winter, an energy saving company has warned.
According to Heatingandventilating.net, Alan O'Brien, chief executive of Sabien Technology, said the cost of energy could be influenced by the need to pay for the UK's climate change policies.
"Government figures suggest its climate policies will add 26 per cent to the energy bills of medium sized firms by 2020," he explained.
"At the core of rising prices is the fact that wholesale gas is now a global market, especially with the emergence of liquefied natural gas. As with all global markets, the prices will be driven by the highest payer and demand."
Mr O'Brien noted that political upheaval in the Middle East could contribute to higher gas and electricity prices for British firms this winter.
He suggested companies could fit energy efficiency measures to their workplaces in order to cut down their utility bills.
