Green energy in the US is on the increase and the growth could fuel greater demand for the technology in the UK.
Figures from the American Wind Energy Association have revealed wind farms added more than 2,800 megawatts of capacity during the first quarter, as demand for more green energy continues to rise in the US.
The success of the technology could be used to help encourage greater uptake of wind farms in the UK, particularly as the British government considers the potential of offshore developments.
While these can be more costly than building wind farms on land, they face fewer objections from local communities and could harness more green energy because of their location.
It is hoped more developments in the UK will take place in the future as the government uses its economic stimulus to encourage more investment in environmentally-friendly technology in an effort to beat the recession.
Ministers have been looking to develop the eco-friendly economy and boosting the amount of green energy being used would also help secure the future of the country's energy supplies.
