The offshore cheap energy wind market could learn vital lessons from the oil and gas industries, an expert has suggested.
John Sinclair, managing director of the Subocean Group, said the offshore wind renewables could be as big as the existing oil and gas sectors in years to come if effective planning takes place.
Speaking at the RenewableUK Offshore Wind 2010 event in Liverpool, Mr Sinclair said the offshore cheap energy wind market offers enormous opportunities, but there needs to be a "reality check" of the UK renewables supply chain, which is struggling to access the market.
"We need [to get] young people in secondary schools and universities into the renewables market and sell them the career prospects and opportunities that the UK and global markets have," he commented.
Mr Sinclair added that it is just over the last two years that Britain has seen a sustainable offshore wind renewables market with a continual supply of opportunities, but with such enormous opportunity in the future, there are still significant challenges to be overcome.
