Climate change secretary Chris Huhne has stressed the importance of prioritising sustainable cheap energy.
Writing in the Telegraph, Mr Huhne reiterated his commitment to facilitating the transition to a low carbon economy and pointed out that there is vast potential for a much greener UK.
"We must seize our share of the green technology revolution and make the UK the best place in the world to do energy business," he wrote.
Mr Huhne revealed that later this month, he plans to present the coalition government's first annual statements on energy policy to parliament, outlining how the department aims to achieve economic recovery, energy security and climate stabilisation.
The energy and climate change department also plans to publish the detailed analysis and underpinning data of the 2050 Pathways project, which will help the government understand the magnitude of the project and the trade-offs it will have to make over the next 40 years.
