Using an energy comparison service to check green electricity rates could go some way to helping people make their homes more eco-friendly.
Discussing the matter yesterday (April 11th), deputy prime minister Nick Clegg explained buildings in the UK are some of the most energy inefficient in Europe.
A third of the carbon emissions produced by the country come from people's homes and 15 million of these do not have proper insulation, he stated.
The Office of Fair Trading recently announced the launch of an investigation into the home insulation market to find out if it is offering consumers enough value for money.
As well as having a negative effect on the environment, this is costing households hundreds of pounds extra every year - driving up the price of energy bills.
"Very few of us really know how much energy we use, yet very small changes to the way we receive that information can make a big difference," Mr Clegg continued.
This could encourage individuals to look at green energy tariffs and consider ways of improving their consumption.
