Reform of the retail energy market cannot come soon enough, as nine out of ten people (89 per cent) are most worried about their energy bills, research has found.
A Which? survey revealed how money concerns are on the minds of householders in the UK, with almost half raising fears that they will not be able to meet bill payments if either they or their partner loses their job.
Richard Lloyd, executive director of the consumer group, commented: "We know that energy bills are consumers' number one financial concern … so this additional scrutiny from Ofgem is welcome."
He added that the only way to know if customers are getting a good deal on their cheap energy package is for Ofgem to scrutinise price hikes from all the energy suppliers.
