Small and medium-sized enterprises have been advised to switch their business gas and electricity suppliers as often as possible.
According to industry regulator Ofgem, firms that do not switch energy providers frequently risk being classed as non-active customers and will be unable to benefit from the best deals available.
There are more than 11,000 business gas and electricity tariffs offered by energy suppliers, so if firms simply compare energy providers they will be able to secure the most cost-effective deals.
Business energy contracts are designed to be automatically renewed by the supplier and some energy providers renew about 90 per cent of their customers' tariffs without first informing them thus taking the opportunity to increase their rates.
By contacting a supplier directly to cancel or by authorising an energy switching service to cancel on their behalf, companies can avoid roll over contracts and save themselves some money.
Customers were recently urged by energyhelpline.com to switch tariffs now as many energy providers are starting to increase their prices.
