Customers wishing to compare energy deals might be interested to learn that global wind power installations rose by 35.8GW last year, according to research.
Figures released by the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC) showed that this is a 22.5 per cent increase on the level of GW installed by the end of the previous year.
Steve Sawyer, secretary general of GWEC, commented: "Wind power is now rapidly expanding beyond the traditional 'rich country' markets, a clear sign of its growing competitiveness.
"This is a trend we are expecting to see developing further in the future, not only in Asia. We are also seeing encouraging signs in Latin America, especially Brazil and Mexico, and in both Northern and Sub-Saharan Africa."
However, European data showed new installed capacity last year was down 7.5 per cent on 2009 levels, although countries including the UK, Denmark and Belgium saw 50 per cent growth in the offshore renewable energy market.
The research comes after a separate study revealed full-time employment in the UK's wind industry has increased by 91 per cent in the last three years
