Energy supplier British Gas has reminded individuals of the assistance that may be available to help them get cheap electricity and gas in the winter months.
It claimed it has the broadest eligibility criteria for the warm homes discount grant of any major provider, which can offer a £120 payment to help meet expenses.
This may be vital for many individuals, as Save the Children recently claimed up to 800,000 families who are struggling to heat their homes may have missed out on this help, the Daily Mirror reported.
British Gas said "for these people sufficient heating can be the difference between life and death" and urged householders to check their eligibility.
It noted applicants must receive the Savings or Guarantee & Savings element of the State Pension Credit, or one of a range of other benefits, such as income-based employment support.
Households earning under £16,190 where there is an "element of vulnerability" - such as a person with a disability or children aged under five - can also apply.
