The introduction of smart meters to every home in the UK will help more people get cheap gas and electricity, according to energy supplier npower.
It was stated by the firm the adoption of these devices is a "key component" in creating a 21st century energy infrastructure that ensures the security of supplies and enables the country to switch energy usage to low-carbon and sustainable sources.
Chief commercial officer at npower Paul Massara said: "Smarter meters will mean the end to estimated bills and mean smarter energy products that better serve everyone."
He added his company is committed to working with the Department of Energy and Climate Change to drive down costs and ensure domestic energy customers are able to see the full benefits of the technology.
However, concerns have been raised recently about the proposed rollout, with a report from the Public Accounts Committee warning it is "far from certain" all households will see their costs go down, as there are no mechanisms in place to ensure savings made by energy providers will be passed on to consumers.
