A large number of people who are looking to switch energy provider in order to get cheap gas could be ignoring the potential savings they can see by improving their efficiency measures.
This is according to research conducted by Knauf Insulation, which revealed 45 per cent of homeowners have never thought about increasing their loft insulation, despite the fact seven out of ten people say their energy costs have increased recently.
The firm noted that despite a mild winter, the average bill is still at a record high, with 5.5 million people classed as in fuel poverty.
However, ten million homes have yet to take advantages of the opportunities that are available for improving the insulation of their home.
External affairs director at Knauf Insulation Steven Heath said: "This research highlights both a lack of understanding but also a real apathy towards the financial benefits that households could be reaping from a very simple installation."
Recently, E.ON announced a scheme to encourage take-up of insulation measures that will see anyone claiming Pension Credits given a cheque for £100 when they sign up for free insulation from the firm.
