Energy supplier E.ON is set to open a new customer service centre to cope with the high level of interest in smart meters.
The company stated it has seen the number of enquiries about the technology triple since it opened its first smart metering centre of excellence in May 2011.
Therefore, it is set to add a second centre in Bolton, where 85 customer service representatives will offer tailored advice and support on smart meters to customers.
Chief executive of E.ON UK Tony Cocker said: "What we're seeing here is a real shift in demand; our customers understand the benefits of smart meters and they want them now."
He added the new customer service centre re-affirms the company's commitment to helping consumers take control of their energy usage in order to get cheap gas and electricity bills.
Last week, British Gas stated it will write to 10,000 smart meter users offering energy saving tailored to their home.
