Many families may like to compare electricity prices if they find their use of household gadgets is driving up their energy bills.
According to a new report from the Energy Savings Trust, the average British home now contains three-and-a-half times as many electrical items as it did in 1990, which is leading to large increases in energy consumption.
The worst offending items are said to be plasma TVs, fridge-freezers and tumble driers.
People were also urged to think about their usage of technology such as computers, which are now a feature in three-quarters of homes.
It was noted that leaving items such as printers on 24/7 even when they are only used for a few minutes a day can add a large amount to a domestic electricity bill.
The Trust suggests simple steps people can take to reduce their energy bills include fitting energy efficient light bulbs and looking for Energy Saving Recommended logos when buying appliances.
