The government has unveiled new plans designed to increase the value of cheap energy efficient homes.
Under the proposals, estate agents will be given guidelines telling them to view energy efficiency positively when deciding the value of homes, reports the Times.
It is believed homeowners are more likely to install cheap energy efficiency measures in their homes such as insulation and solar panels if they believe it will increase the value of their properties.
Council tax rebates will also be offered to homeowners who improve insulation as part of the scheme, which forms part of the government's efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by a third within ten years.
In addition, local authorities will be able to require energy suppliers to work with them to insulate social housing, while banks will be encouraged to offer loans to homeowners who install energy efficient measures.
The government recently announced plans to launch green loans to help homeowners install cheap energy efficient measures in their properties.
