E.ON volunteers build greenhouse at school - 05/09/2011

Volunteers from cheap energy provider E.ON, which is one of the country's biggest energy suppliers, have collaborated to build a greenhouse at a school in Bedford.

Twelve members of staff helped with the construction at Elstow Lower School, using more than 1,400 plastic bottles that had been collected by children and E.ON employees.

Working together to build a frame for the greenhouse, the volunteers undertook a variety of tasks including cutting the bottles and placing the roof on top.

Samuel Harding, a team manager at E.ON and one of the volunteers, said: "Everyone had a fantastic 'can do' attitude and pulled together to make it happen, a successful team effort which just goes to show the determination of our colleagues and how they take pride in their work."

Karen Headland, deputy headteacher at Elstow Lower School, added: "Thanks to the team's hard work, the greenhouse looks great and I'm sure that the children will be very excited about using it this coming term."
