Families who are looking to switch energy providers to get a cheap electricity deal may agree with one expert that more assistance is needed from the government to tackle fuel poverty.
Speaking to the BBC's Wake Up to Money podcast, chief executive of National Energy Action Jenny Saunders noted there are currently six million households in the UK suffering from fuel poverty.
The problem is especially acute among single pensioners aged over 60, as well as families who depend on means tested benefits, she said.
While elderly people can benefit from schemes such as the warm home discount, the country should not rely solely on this mechanism to reduce the level of fuel poverty, the expert continued.
Ms Saunders added: "There are other ways in which we can support families because this is a one off rebate. What they would benefit more from is an ongoing means of reducing their energy bills through energy efficiency."
Earlier this week, work and pensions spokeswoman for the Scottish National Party Dr Eilidh Whiteford called on the Treasury to use the £1.4 billion it collects from VAT on gas and electricity bills to support vulnerable energy customers.
