Welsh govt confirms extra heating funding - 02/03/2012
The Welsh Assembly has confirmed the allocation of additional funds to help homeowners get lower gas and electricity bills.
It has announced £6.6 million will be made available to help individuals in some of the country's most deprived areas by fitting measures such as external insulation and high-efficiency boilers.
These will be installed in more than 1,500 homes in area including Swansea, Ceredigion, Flintshire and Blaenau Gwent.
Environment minister John Griffiths said: "Ensuring that Welsh homes are more energy efficient is vital if we are to successfully tackle fuel poverty."
He added it will "make a real difference" to families in some of Wales' poorest areas.
It comes shortly after the Scottish government announced it will invest a further £2 million in insulation and boiler scrappage schemes.
