Energy efficiency 'is only way to make long-term savings' - 03/06/2011

Making a home energy efficient is the only way cheap energy customers will be able to make long-term savings, Act on Energy has argued.

David Jullien, chief executive of the environmental charity, noted that fuel - whether it is oil, gas or another form of energy - will continue increasing in price "because it's a resource that's running out".

"When anything gets scarce it gets more expensive and the only people who can afford it are rich people, so all the poor people - and many of those live in rural areas - are the first ones to suffer," he pointed out.

Therefore, domestic energy customers who live in rural parts of the country, and who might struggle to switch gas suppliers, should look to replace their old central heating boiler with an efficient one.

British Gas is currently running a boiler scrappage scheme by offering those with old Grade-G equipment £400 towards the price of a new Grade-A model.
