Insulation and regulation the key to cheap energy bills - 10/08/2012

Individuals looking to secure cheap energy supplies for their home have been advised to ensure their property is fully insulated and their usage is regulated.

Paula Owen, energy and environment consultant at ecoactiontrumps.co.uk, explained there are many ways to boost a home's efficiency, including fitting lagging to loft and cavity walls.

"Those are the most important things you can do, in terms of the biggest energy and money savings you can make in your property," she noted.

This echoes advice recently offered by communications and research manager at Ecology Building Society Anna Laycock, who said having these solutions is a "must".

Other steps suggested by Ms Owens include ensuring all electrical appliances are A-rated for their efficiency and changing habits to avoid using unnecessary energy.

She explained many people have their thermostat set as high as 23 degrees C, but if they turn this down to 18 to 21 degrees C, they can make large savings without any noticeable difference in comfort.
