Monitoring schemes helps village see savings - 16/08/2012

An innovative energy monitoring scheme has helped residents of a Leicestershire village secure cheap gas and electricity.

A scheme led Village Power Community Interest Company saw energy monitors fitted to 80 homes in North Kilworth to help raise awareness among locals about their usage, Solar Power Portal reports.

It noted that after two months of having the equipment installed, two-thirds of residents had cut their energy usage, while 90 per cent of people said they would recommend the technology to a friend.

Mark Elliott, director of operations at Energeno, which provided the Wattson monitors for the scheme, said the devices allows individuals to gain a "much clearer picture of what steps they can take to help reduce their household energy bills and make a measurable contribution to reducing the carbon footprint of the village as a whole".

Recently, the London Evening Standard explained monitoring gadgets can help homeowners pinpoint exactly where they are wasting energy, which allows them to make informed changes to their activities.
