Homeowners looking to compare energy prices and get the best deals could be better off arranging payment over the internet.
Major energy firm EDF has become the cheapest supplier in the UK following an online price reduction in the last few days that helped it to undercut British Gas, while npower and Scottish Power have also reduced the cost of their internet deals.
Specific prices differ from region to region across the UK, but prices are usually better for customers arranging direct debit payments on energy companies' websites.
At the moment, customers opting to pay on the internet could save up to £379 a year simply by arranging to pay their bills in this way rather than through more conventional methods.
All the UK's major suppliers introduced substantial price rises throughout the course of last year and were severely criticised for failing to lower costs in time for the freezing winter months, despite a fall in wholesale prices in the autumn.
