The Tewkesbury Admag reports that local homes could benefit from cheap gas and electricity bills if they installed insulation, improved their heating systems and became more energy efficient. On average, each household could save around £300 per year.
Launched last week by the Energy Saving Trust, the competition hopes to discover the first Green Voice of Great Britain.
Sykes noted that UK householders are currently responsible for almost half of the nation's carbon emissions.
"You don't have to be an environmentalist living in an eco-house, we are looking for people who can represent the views of the man on the street and communicate these views in a simple manner," she added.
The trust states that the winner will hold the post for one year, acting as a media spokesperson for energy efficiency and attending a number of high-profile events.
