Funding from Europe could mean cheap energy bills for Wales' residents - 19/03/2010
Millions of pounds are to be spent making homes in Wales more energy efficient, potentially meaning cheap energy bills for residents.
The Welsh Assembly Government has announced plans to use up to £34 million of funding from Europe to improve the energy performance of domestic buildings.
As well as making homes more efficient, it is thought the move will mean cheaper fuel bills, too.
Announcing the news, deputy first minister Ieuan Wyn Jones said: "Making homes more energy-efficient is a key part in our ambitions to reduce Wales' carbon footprint."
Measures to improve homes will be carried out in the region's most deprived areas, the Welsh Assembly stated.
Environment minister Jane Davidson said the funding is key to maximising Wales' resources.
The country's government recently revealed the region has the potential to generate twice its electricity needs from renewable sources within the next 15 years.
