Residents move into cheap energy efficient development - 05/05/2010

Residents have moved into a new eco-friendly development in Clifton-on-Teme, that makes use of sustainable cheap energy.

The development, from West Mercia Housing Group and Thomas Vale Construction, features a range of energy saving features such as ground source heat pumps to supply heat for water and central heating systems.

A system has also been installed which harvests rainwater collected from the garden and around the home, helping to improve efficiency and sustainability.

The £1.63 million development consists of six properties for shared ownership and eight homes for rent. The homes have been developed specifically for people who are local to the area but cannot afford to buy a property.

One of the new tenants, Rachel Woolley, commented: "The standard of the properties and attention to detail is impressive. Nexus Housing has added some lovely environmentally-friendly touches such as bird tables and water butts which suit the surroundings well."

The development of the homes was funded by a grant from the Homes and Communities Agency and obtained through West Mercia Housing Group's membership of the Spectrum Development Partnership.
