Consumers may be wise to compare energy providers before the onset of winter, to ensure they are getting the best deal during the colder months, an expert has advised.
A spokeswoman for National Energy Action, a campaign group designed to raise awareness of fuel poverty, said that it is sensible to compare energy providers before winter so that consumers can access cheap gas and electricity when demand is higher.
"There are considerable savings to be made if people are prepared to switch suppliers and online direct debits deals give the best savings," she said.
The spokeswoman added that prices tend to increase as demand grows, so over the winter months individual should expect to spend more on their domestic energy bills.
National Energy Action also this week welcomed the move by the government to retain the Winter Fuel Payment as a universal benefit. The announcement, which was made in the Comprehensive Spending Review, came alongside a raft of other measures, such as a move to reduce funding for the Warm Front energy efficiency scheme. The NEA expressed disappointment over this action.
