A campaign by one independent supplier for people to switch energy provider away from the Big Six firms may be seeing its popularity grow.
Ecotricity has launched a 'Dump the Big Six' drive, featuring a film of collapsing cooling towers that has been uploaded to YouTube.
In the first five days of being online, the company claimed it was viewed more than 1.3 million times and was one of the top five most watched videos worldwide.
Founder of Ecotricity Dale Vince said the mood in the UK has been turning against the major energy suppliers for much of the past year.
"People are fed up with the unethical pricing, awful customer service and the dire lack of investment in new sources of green energy," he said.
Mr Vince therefore called on consumers to harness "people power" and vote with their energy bills by moving to a provider offering clean, cheap energy.
This week, research by Friends of the Earth and pressure group Compass found 86 per cent of individuals in the UK want to see an independent inquiry into the operations of the Big Six firms.
