Brits 'more accepting' of energy-saving bulbs - 02/04/2012

A growing number of people in the UK may be turning to LED lighting for their property in a bid to get cheap electricity, it has been suggested.

Director of Be Energy Smart Charles Dowson said there is a growing acceptance among householders of the benefits of the technology.

He explained in the past, people have not been impressed with the products available at DIY stores, as they took a while to get up to full brightness and gave off quite a cold light.

"Now the technology's moved on and they've got warmer tints and tones and come on much more quickly, more like the old filament ones," Mr Dowson continued.

This was recently echoed by interior designer Dianne Proud, who noted people no longer have to compromise on aesthetics in order to go green.

However, Mr Dowson added there is still a lack of awareness about the potential for LED lighting in homes, as many companies are focused mainly on the commercial sector rather than domestic users.
