By spending money on insulating their house, domestic energy users could beat the price hikes implemented by five of the Big Six energy suppliers.
Advice website Thinkinsulation explains that householders could save £145 a year on their gas and electricity bills by insulating their loft to the correct standards.
Fitting insulation to walls could save as much as £385 on annual fuel bills.
Lydia Sharples of the website comments: "Price hikes are a stark reality and it's no wonder that homeowners are concerned after the rises earlier this year."
She added: "Although we have no control over the strength of the gas market or the price of fuel in the UK, there are changes that all homeowners can make to counter increased energy prices."
