Individuals looking to get cheap electricity and gas may find there are several steps they can take in order to help lower their bills.
In addition to performing a price comparison to find a cheaper tariff or energy supplier, they could take advantage of available grants, as British Gas stated it spent £70.7 million in 2010/11 assisting vulnerable customers.
As well as having broad eligibility criteria for the Warm Homes Discount, all domestic energy users with the firm can access free loft and cavity wall insulation.
Last year, the gas and electricity provider fitted over 400,000 such measures to British homes.
Managing director of energy at the firm Ian Peters said: "We know that household budgets continue to be stretched and that is why we're committed to helping customers manage and reduce their energy bills."
The firm is also rolling out smart meters, a technology energy minister Charles Hendry recently said will give customers more control over their energy usage.
