The government's new Pay as you Save scheme, which allows householders to improve their cheap energy efficiency, has been welcomed by the Great British Refurb Campaign (GBRC).
Simon McWhirter, campaign director (GBRC), said the scheme will play a vital part in refurbishing the country's existing housing stock.
Speaking at the Housing Now event, he said the scheme will provide an attractive incentive to people who want to improve the cheap energy efficiency of their homes in a cost-effective way.
Mr McWhirter went on to explain that people need to be educated about the link between the way they behave in their homes and the impact this behaviour has on their energy usage.
He stressed that householders also need to be provided with the information and tools to allow them to implement changes around their homes that will enable them to reduce bills from their energy suppliers.
A recent survey carried out for the Sustainability Now event found that 72 per cent of the public believe that a new government represents a good opportunity to overhaul green legislation.
