Solar panels should be regarded as a badge of honour that shows a homeowner is committed to cheap energy, an expert has said.
Daniel Green, chief executive at HomeSun, suggested that solar panels signify that a homeowner wants to make a real difference by increasing their energy efficiency and reducing their carbon footprint.
Unlike cavity wall insulation or other energy efficient alterations that nobody sees, solar panels are a public display showing anyone walking past that the homeowner is taking steps to lower their energy usage, Mr Green maintained.
He also pointed out that panels can have a positive effect on a homeowner's finances because they allows them to achieve lower bills from their energy suppliers.
"If you start watching the electricity that you are generating and also see your bills coming down, suddenly it becomes a way of life," Mr Green commented.
Last week, HomeSun announced plans to give away £1 billion worth of solar panels to 100,000 homes across the country over the next three years.
